I Fucking Hate Summer
It started with one simple idea: summer sucks.
I founded I FUCKING HATE SUMMER in May 2011 as a Facebook group for people who were tired of pretending that heat, humidity, mosquitoes, sunburn, and sweating through your clothes were somehow the ingredients for a good time.
And somehow, it grew.
Today, IFHS is a community of more than 70,000 members from around the world. We complain about summer, celebrate fall and winter, laugh at ourselves, and enjoy the fact that we've found tens of thousands of other people who also consider 90 degrees a threat rather than a forecast.
But IFHS has become more than a Facebook group.
Every month, we give our members something new to get involved in. Our contests change throughout the year, from creative challenges and seasonal competitions to month-long mysteries like Who Killed Summer? and October's Pumpkin Massacre pumpkin-carving contest. Winners receive prizes funded through the IFHS merchandise shop and other group projects.
We've also created the IFHS Creator Community, showcasing artists, designers, and other creators from within the group, with opportunities to share their work with the larger IFHS community.
And now we're taking that creativity into publishing with the IFHS™ Ugly Little Monster Series, a member-author program built around one requirement: summer has to be part of the problem. Each book is written by an IFHS member, while IFHS handles the editing, formatting, cover development, and publication. The first title in the series, Chandra Schmitt's Why I Fucking Hate Summer: 20 Perfectly Reasonable Reasons Summer Can Fuck Off, is currently in production.
Our merchandise shop helps make much of this possible. Proceeds support contests, giveaways, publishing projects, and other things we create for the community.
At its heart, though, IFHS is still what it was when it started: a bunch of people brought together by a mutual hatred of summer and a sense of humor about it.
Summer is temporary. Our hatred is year-round.
